Ethiopian Military Takes Control of Zalambessa Town

Ethiopian military has entered Zalambessa town in northern Tigray. This morning, Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) contingents took control of Zalambessa town.

Zalambessa is situated on Ethiopia-Eritrea border in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Since last month, war has been ongoing between Ethiopian federal forces and Tigray regional forces which are being backed by the Eritrean Defense Force (EDF).

Reportedly, Tigray fighters and Eritrean soldiers withdrew from Zalambessa yesterday. Last week, Ethiopian military took control of Adigrat town. Since then ENDF has been clearing the areas between Adigrat and Zalambessa. It captured Fatsi and Fiya Kashi yesterday. With ENDF’s entry into Zalambessa, now Ethiopian and Eritrean militaries are confronting each other as Ethiopian military has secured Ethiopian border with Eritrea through Zalambessa.

On Sunday and Monday, foreign diplomats in Addis Ababa held several meetings with Ethiopian leaders including with the prime minister Abiy Ahmed.
