Ethiopian PM Appoints Simret & TPF-Led Interim Govt in Tigray
Ethiopian Prime Minister today appointed interim govt in Tigray, which will work for 6 months. The interim govt is led by Simret political party ( Getachew Reda’s political party), and Tigray Peace Force.
The interim government consists of following 5 officials:
1. Mr. Assefa Abraha Hagos– Chief Executive ( Former TPLF Leader from Getachew Reda group)
2. Dr. Tewodros Aregay W/Selassie — Head of Economic Affairs ( He served as Shire mayor under federal government when federal government established interim government in Tigray during previous 2020 war).
3. Brigadier General Gebreegziabher Beyene, Wedi Antiru – Head of Security ( He is head of anti TPLF Tigrayran militia called Tigray Peace Force).
4. Mr. Redai Halefom W/Selassie – Head of Political Affairs (Former TPLF leader from Getachew Reda group).
5. Mr. Shishay Amare– Mayor of Mekelle city ( He is also from Getachew Reda’s Simret party)
The newly appointed 5-member administration, under the federal government, will work to stabilize the Tigray region of Ethiopia where war between Federal Forces and Tigray Regional Forces is still ongoing. TPLF and Tigray military are vowing to free the region from ENDF. Though Ethiopian federal forces have controlled all major cities of Tigray, Tigray regional forces have started guerilla war. This week they recaptured Abiy Addi, Agbe, Shiwate Higum, Werkmaba and other places in central Tigray.
The new interim setup announced by the Prime Minister today is led by Tigrayans who are opposed to TPLF. It seems that in coming weeks, federal government will strengthen anti-TPLF Tigrayan militia called Tigray Peace Force. Reportedly federal forces and TPF chief Wedi Antiru are overseeing new recruitment in TPF. Ethiopian federal government wants anti TPLF political and armed groups to counter Tigray People’s Liberation Front and Tigray military.
